for PRIMARY & SECONDARY SCHOOLS in collaboration with
IM Mark Quinn - CHESS BUD IRELAND
AIMS:

To introduce students to the basic rules of Chess through a variety of activities and experiences.

To develop and encourage a love of Chess through practical workshops and participation.

Chess is a universal game, knowing no boundaries of age, gender, faith, ethnicity or disability, that promotes key intellectual skills such as problem solving, spacial awareness, logical thinking, pattern recognition and concentration.

Chess teaches how to lose and how to win gracefully, to think ahead and foresee the consequences of actions.

The deep focus and presence of chess participation echo the principles of mindfulness, a state of being attuned to the present moment.
OBJECTIVES:

To enable them to understand and enjoy the basics of playing Chess

Responsibility and independence as they take ownership of many aspects of the game.

Engage in a mindfulness approach and connect with all class colleagues through playing or inter-student tuition.
CONTENT:

Understanding the rules of chess

Strategic thinking connected to each individual piece

Basic principles of opening, middlegame and endgame strategies

Simple tactics

Mating patterns
-
Chess etiquette
Throughout the workshop, instruction will be given by teacher and inter-student tuition will be encouraged.
